SOME OF OUR CORE BELIEFS OUR DESIRE |
When you visit us, you are our special guest and a blessing to us. We pray you will find an atmosphere of peace where you can feel free to worship God and that you will feel welcome.
Our assembly is not often a display of emotion and excitement, but a simple and devout period of worship. We gather to sing praises, study, pray, fellowship, and share in the Lord’s Supper each week. We also have an opportunity for people to give what they have decided in their hearts to give to the Lord. In all of this our aim is to give glory and honor to God and to encourage one another. Our core belief is that there is only one God who is seen in three persons, God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit. We believe that the Bible is God’s word and is our only means of verifying what God desires. We honor each other’s opinions, but it is the Word of God that is our only guide for our faith and practice. We believe that salvation is by grace as none of us deserve to be saved. It is through faith we access the grace of God and are saved (Ephesians 2:8). We believe that faith is not just a mental assent, but that real faith and love is willing to do what Jesus says (John 14:15; James 2:17). We see that repentance of sins is associated with sins being removed and salvation (Acts 2:38, 2 Corinthians 7:8-11). Being willing to confess that Jesus is Lord is also a part of being saved (Romans 10:9-10). Being immersed into Christ is yet another thing the Lord asks of us (Matthew 28:18-20). Scripture teaches that baptism washes away sin (Acts 22:16) and places us in Christ (Romans 6:3-4). It is also the means by which we are given the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38). The Lord also desires that we continue to be faithful until death (Revelation 2:10). So as a response of faith we obey the Lord in these things and whatever else he teaches. We are still not earning salvation by doing these things, but rather we are accepting God’s grace as we honor him by our faith by doing what he says. We want to be a church that is focused on Jesus, the Savior; people who really do love the Lord with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength as Jesus taught was the greatest command (Mark 12:30). We want to be a church who loves its neighbors as itself as Jesus taught was the second greatest command (Mark 12:31). We want to be a church whose members imitate God (Ephesians 5:1). We recognize we are not perfect by ourselves, but with the Lord’s help and direction from his word we can grow to be like him. We want to be a church whose members recognize that we ourselves have received so much from the Lord that we in turn will extend that same kind of grace to others. Each person is at a different place in their journey to know and understand the Lord and his ways and we want to respect where each person is, whether just learning about the Lord, or well on their way in years of service to the him. We desire “the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” that Paul talks about in Ephesians 4, recognizing that this unity comes when we do not bind our own will on others. We want to be a church that continues to search the scriptures for a better understanding of how God wants us to relate not only to himself, but to others. On and on we could go in our desires, but our aim can be summed up by simply saying we want to honor the Lord in all we do. We would love to have you join us on this journey. If you are interested in learning more, contact our minister or speak to one of our elders about it. |
